Nueva entrega de la popular saga JRPG de Square Enix que promete explotar como ningún otro JRPG hasta ahora las posibilidades gráficas, sonoras y de almacenamiento que ofrecen las consolas de nueva generación.

El título se centrará en Cocoon (Nido en español), una colonia flotante creada con cristales que protege a millones de ciudadanos con su avanzada tecnología, en oposición a Pulse (Paals en español), un mundo completamente natural debajo de ellos. Pero los habitantes de Cocoon temen a los de Pulse. Aunque no vive de una industrialización radical, Pulse también tiene cristales, pero no se sabe para qué los usan.

La protagonista del juego Lightning es una Lu´Cie, que ha sido señalada por un fal´cie de Paals y es una enemiga del Nido porque se supone que por su culpa y por la de todos los Lu´Cies Cocoon caerá sobre Pulse.
